2 year Anniversary!!

2yrs locked, sporting a braid out, with my 10 month old baby girl

I have had my 2 year anniversary and I still can't believe it. I am receiving several compliments, and I even had some women follow me through a couple isles in Costco, admiring about my locks. But the thing that made my heart sing was hearing my mother say she really liked my hair!! Finally!!

First day being Sisterlocked

First  appointment/retighting by my beloved, Certified consultant, Precious!

First time I really noticed some length.

Now here is my hair at the 2 year mark

My Ponytail (including my kitchen)

Concerns-
Build up at the base  of my neck, you can see it in the pick above.

Hair maintenance- *Retights are every 6 weeks  *Wash every 2 weeks.  Currently, when I wash my hair,  I use Suave daily clarifying shampoo for 2 washes, and then for my final wash I use Dawn Pure. Before my retight, Precious uses Lemon Fluff shampoo and it feels so awesome  *I use a Seabreeze spritz every 3 days  *I still use a shower cap and night bonnet.

Goals- 1) an even longer ponytail 2) find my hair color for my first dye EVER 3) take the SL retightening class (will continue to use my consultant but I think it is important to know how to DIY)

So Happy to be Sisterlocked!!

Stay Blessed!!

Loving my hair! 21 months

Wow, time flies! I can't believe I am at 21 months already. I have wanted to post so many times but technology has not been my friend, this is the busy season at work and my little ones are so much fun!

My sweet girls!

My 3 year old, mimics me by shaking her hair as she says, "l am loving my hair!". YES!!!!

I am loving my Sisterlocks!  I adore its versatility, and its growth. My locks are much thicker and the length is starting to be more apparent. When I feel my hair tickle beyond the base of my neck I jump in fear because I am nervous that I have a spider crawling on me LOL. Even though there are days I examine my locks, and find it's faults, (thin spots, bunching etc) most of the time I am in awe of it. I just can't take my hands out of my hair. It feels so good, I just love the feel of my maturing locks.

1 Year Anniversary!

Well last month, Aug.9th, I made it to my 1 year mark. I could not color my hair, like I planned, and that is disappointing but the reason I do not want to color my hair is because;

I am Pregnant!!!!! I am due Nov. 11th and we are having another girl!

                                                                             25 Weeks

I know there are dyes that might be OK to use but I just don't want to take any chances. I am moving my hair dye date to my birthday in January. I am also still trying to figure out what color I want to use. If you have any suggestions for color(s), that would suit my skin tone, please leave them in comments, I would really appreciate it.

My hair is settling but it is not locked yet. My hair is growing like a weed, I can see it in my new growth but I don't always see the length because my hair is so coily and my locs are so small. But once I start pulling/stretching my locs and compare old photos I see the difference.

The little stumps in the front (approx 2months in)

have grown into bangs!!!!

Concerns- I actually noticed a bald spot (outta nowhere) when I was around 3- 4 months pregnant. I did not want to talk about it because it stressed me out so much and I knew that my stress would make it worse. I think my pregnancy hormones and the financial stress I was under caused the patch.( I got a lot of encouragement and info from  Bajan Lily who blogged about her experience with hair loss.) But in no time it grew back and at my last appointment Precious, my consultant, put a little lock there. I am nervous about my post partum hair issues but Precious and I will be keeping a close eye on my hair.

Hair maintenance- *Retights are every 6 weeks  *Wash every 2 weeks (I will be trying out various clarifying shampoos and I cant wait to blog about that) currently I use Dawn Pure and then I do an ACV rinse *I use a Seabreeze spritz every 3 days  *I still use a shower cap and night bonnet.

Goals- 1) still aiming for a decent ponytail 2) find my hair color for my first dye EVER 3) take the SL retightening class (will continue to use my consultant but I think it is important to know how to DIY)

I am so happy with choosing to Sisterlock my hair. It has not always been an easy journey but it has been worth it.

Stay Blessed!!

Has it been that long!? (9 Months)

Happy Mother's Day!!!!!  to all the Mommas out there

I hope everyone is well and I have missed you all very much!

It has been forever since I last posted ( been under a lot of stress but I will chat about that later) cause it is time to CELEBRATE. I have had my Sisterlocks for 9 MONTHS! I can't believe it has been so long, so I guess the saying it true 'time waits for nobody'

My hair is growing a lot but there are some days that you can notice it more then others, it is super coily right now.

My hair is definitely on it's way to locking and I love the way it feels. I have to say I have made no major changes to my routine;

  • I have my hair retightened every 6 weeks with my consultant Precious Stallworth
  •  Wash every 2 weeks (still braiding and banding but no longer have slippage so I don't double band anymore)
  • ACV rinse once a month
  • Still have dry scalp issues so I spray Seabreeze as needed (usually every 4 days)
  • No oils or conditioners
  • Sleep with a Bonnet (so sexy)
  • Use a super big shower cap (extra sexy)

  3. Rock a ponytail!

Vitamins & Supplements for health, hair, nails and skin.

My weight had been fluctuating a lot over the last few months (stress). So over the last few weeks I have made sure to stock up on my fruit and veggies and to take my vitamins to combat any damage I might have done. And now, I already see and feel great results. Not much on the weight loss department bc I have not started working out again(my new consultant wants me to not wash my hair I will chat more about that soon) but my skin is soft and glowing, my nails are growing super fast and I am regular if you know what I mean.

Vitamin regime

Multi-vitamins- just to make sure I am not deficient in anything bc I do not always eat the way I should. I also take this to help fight against the big C’s (cardio vascular disease and cancer).

Fish oil- while I was pregnant I discovered all the benefits of having omega 3 fatty acids and fish oil is an excellent source of it esp. since I won’t cook salmon everyday. Again it helps with the big C’s, also improves memory, focus and relieves signs of depression.

Super B complex- for stress bc it gives me the energy to combat the daily stresses in life. Most importantly, the b vitamins help with cell rejuvenation, deficiencies can look like dry/ grey skin, wrinkles, acne, dermatitis, rashes, falling hair and weak, splitting nails. I swear I was suffering from most of those symptoms a few months ago.

LeVive Juice- it has a mixture of the top 5 antioxidant producing fruit in one product; Pomegranate, Goji, Acai, Noni and Mangosteen. I take a shot of it in the morning bc it does increase energy. Along with giving me healthy hair, skin and nails it controls blood sugars so that I have less of an urge to overeat.

Since I want to grow long sexy locs, I love that the above vitamins/supplements help with hair growth and for that purpose I am going to start drinking the wheat grass smoothies that Blaqkofi recommends on her site here.

Wheatgrass- Detoxifies and cleanses your body, helps balance your body’s pH level and strengthens your immune system

Now Big D, my hubby, sais vitamins might just be giving us expensive pee, and maybe some of the changes I noticed are psychosomatic. But I’ll take IT!! bc like many others I see the results in helping my body do it’s natural functions.

What vitamins/ supplements do you recommend and what results have you seen?

Wish I knew earlier

My daughter’s hair growth has been slow, she is 20 months and her hair doesn’t look much different then when she was born. I have been so frustrated so I got on the internet and started researching natural products and hair growing techniques. It is through this research that I found ways to really care for my natural hair. It is kind of sad that after 6 years I have learnt all this info and the research, initially, really wasn’t for me. Lesson learned. My hair has never been this manageable nor this soft. I use to dread detangling my hair, I can’t tell you the times I just grabbed a pair of scissors and just chopped. Now after washing, I run a brush through my hair in no time. As for my daughter, I am taking care of her hair the best that I can and I am hoping to see some growth soon.

My Current Hair Regime

This is done once a week.

1. I create 6 large braids and I Shampoo with Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap,

2. I deep condition with (deep conditioner, honey and castor oil) about 20 min

3. I then unbraid one section at a time and detangle using a Denman brush. Once that section is detangled, I twist it and move to the next.

4. I wash out the conditioner combing through each section in the shower

5. I finish with a apple cider vinegar rinse.

6. While my hair is damp I use a cream leave in conditioner and twist my hair and then air dry

Half way through the week I use my spritz (made with Aloe, jojoba oil, rosemary oil) and my leave in conditioner and I retwist.
